Adam Douglas Thompson Obituary

Adam Douglas Thompson, 52, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife, on May 24, 2025, at his home.  Born in Staunton, VA, he was the son of the late Douglas Clinton Thompson and Jane Nottingham Thompson.


Adam proudly served as a Roanoke County Police Officer from March 13, 1995, until June 1, 2023.  During his career he was honored with several awards including, a 2005 Roanoke Officer of The Year, 2008 Golden Halo Award, and 2016 Clay Sturgill Award. Adam was a National Crisis Negotiator with FBI from 2016 until the end of his career. He also worked as a K-9 officer with his dog Meico from September 9, 1995, until December 22, 2001, when Meico became the family dog.


He had a love for the outdoors.  He enjoyed fishing, boating, motorcycling, and shooting guns.  He was a lifetime member of the NRA and the Freedom Boat Club.


Adam was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Clinton Thompson.


He is survived by his wife, Christy Thompson; mother, Jane Thompson; sister, Leigh Ann Wiser; brother-in-law, Lloyd Wiser; niece, London Wiser; mother-in-law, Debbie Jackson- step father-in-law, William Jackson; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Adam also leaves behind his beloved dog, Millie and lifelong friends, Vincent Sweeney and Travis Graham.  Last but not least, Adam is also survived by countless brothers and sisters in BLUE.


The family will be holding a Celebration of Life Service Saturday June 28, 2025, 2:00pm in the Colket Center at Roanoke College in the Wortman Ballroom. 


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Adams honor to the Children's Advocacy Center.
