Anthony St. John Tomlinson age 93, of Pawleys Island, SC, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He was an avid reader of classic western novels and had a passion for golfing and boating.
Mr. Tomlinson was born on August 30, 1931, to Alexander Tomlinson and Annie Mellor Tomlinson of Fylde, Lancashire, England.
Mr. Tomlinson served for three years in the Royal Regiment of Horse Guards, a cavalry regiment of the British Army. He earned an Engineering Degree from Manchester University and later worked for Hawker Siddeley Aircraft, helping develop the Hawker Hunter Aircraft.
In 1960, Mr. Tomlinson emigrated from England to the United States. He settled in Towson, Maryland where he began a career in corporate sales and marketing. During his professional career, he relocated to South Central Pennsylvania and became a senior sales officer for several companies including: Thomas Cook, Malco Plastics, Thron EMI and the American Bank Stationary Company.
Mr. Tomlinson retired in 1998 and later moved to Annapolis, Maryland where he met and married his wife, Sandy. Together, they moved to South Carolina to be closer to the water, enjoy warmer weather, golf and spend time boating on the Winyah Bay.
Anthony Tomlinson attracted friends everywhere he went. They and his family will miss him deeply. Anthony is survived by his wife, Sandy Tomlinson, six children: Leslie Gaugh, John Tomlinson, Mark Tomlinson, David Tomlinson, Victoria Webb and Melynda Britt, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of His Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org) his favorite charitable organization.
