Bernadette Eileen (Heizman) Mayotte, 71, whose selflessness and compassion helped her closest family members to see the beauty in each other, and whose devotion to God guided her life even through adversity and brought her peace in her final days, died April 30 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Born Nov. 19, 1949 in Syracuse, N.Y., Mrs. Mayotte was a devout Roman Catholic who throughout her life enjoyed cooking, shopping, Bingo and yard sales. Spending time at the beach was among her favorite activities. But for Mrs. Mayotte, nothing compared to her love and dedication to God, her Savior, and being with her family and friends – particularly when she was able to help them through difficult moments, mainly by listening.
Mrs. Mayotte was known for thinking of others before herself, and by being quick to smile and laugh. A particular point of pride for Mrs. Mayotte was the accomplishments of her sons and the joy she brought to her grandchildren.
Mrs. Mayotte is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years Keith; her children David (Tracie) and Robert (Alicia); her siblings Sister Nadine, Catherine Fahey, Therese Brown and Bernard; and her grandchildren Jacqueline, Alexander and Robert. Mrs. Mayotte was predeceased by her father Bernard and her mother Rose (McCarthy), her brother Rev. Leo, and her sister Jean.
Funeral services are pending. Memorial donations may be directed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at nationalmssociety.org/Donate.
