Bobby Dock Kelly, Jr.

Bobby Dock Kelly, Jr., 64, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away on September 17, 2021, after a fierce battle with cancer.

Bobby was born on January 27, 1957, in Augusta, GA. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and began a long and wonderful career with State Farm in 1985 as an agent in North Augusta, SC. He then transitioned into management in Florence, SC, before finding his final (and favorite) landing spot as an agent in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Bobby was larger than life. Anytime you asked him how he was doing, his unwavering answer was, “Better than I deserve!” His life was full of extravagant generosity and a desire to do anything he could to help make the lives of those around him better. He was active in the Myrtle Beach community and was a founding board member of the Horry County K–12 Foundation (BE2), Early College High School, and was on the Board of Directors for Theatre of the Republic in Conway. Bobby loved Jesus, his family, and Gamecock football. He loved to sing and perform and was active in community theaters in Aiken, Florence, and most recently with Theatre of the Republic. Bobby traveled extensively and loved to experience new places, but his favorite place to be was at home, a glass of scotch in hand.

Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Bobby Dock Kelly, Sr. and Lou Kelly. He is survived by his life-long best friend, Julie Kelly; his son, Trey (Danielle); daughter, Courtney (Ryan) Fitzgerald; grandsons, David, Jon, and Jacob Kelly, and Ryder and Rhodes Fitzgerald; siblings, Kaye (Ronnie) Young, Susan (Ed) Pihl, and Julie (Milton) Maroney; and numerous loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Services will be held on October 1, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at Wellspring Church in Myrtle Beach, SC, with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Bobby to Wellspring Church (wellspringchurch.tv), PO Box 7710, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572; Theatre of the Republic, 335 Main Street, Conway, SC 29562; or the K-12 Foundation (BE 2), Early College High School (HGTC.edu/give), at Horry County K-12 Foundation, 5001 N.
