Bruce David Bondy, age 73, passed away on the 7th of May 2026 at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC.

He was born on the 17th of January 1953 in Miami, FL, the son of Roy Bondy, of Miami, FL, and Maxine Freeman of Durham, NC.

Bruce grew up splitting his time between Durham and Miami. He attended and graduated from the Sanford Naval Academy, in Sanford, FL, after having risen through the ranks to a position of senior leadership, after which, he held several different jobs over the course of his life. He became a master craftsman of hard contact lenses at the Delta Contact Lens Co. of Miami, FL. Bruce fell in love with golf during this time and successfully transitioned to a career as a PGA certified professional golfer and golf instructor. He became the senior assistant pro at Duke Golf Course, in Durham, NC, under the mentorship of Rod Myers. He then moved to Roxboro Country Club in Roxboro, NC where he was the superintendent, senior pro and pro shop manager. He was also an accomplished and very talented golf club maker. It was around this time Bruce decided he was ready for his next career adventure where he became a skilled and successful auctioneer. After moving to Myrtle Beach, he transitioned to new lines of work, and he held many interesting jobs in his later years, most notably being a manager at the Hard Rock Theme Park which was a job he loved dearly. Bruce was a master salesman, and he excelled in any role, especially those involving customer service.

Concurrently with his career, Bruce took up an interest in Freemasonry and was raised on the 27th of January 1987, to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason — the final degree in Blue Lodge Freemasonry. He went on to complete the 32 degrees of Scottish Rite Freemasonry and completed the York Rite of Freemasonry — becoming a member of the Knights Templar. In 1992 Bruce had the great honor of serving as the Worshipful Master of the Lodge in Fellowship Lodge #687 AF & AM in Durham, NC. On the 23rd of September 1993 the Grand Lodge of AF & AM of North Carolina certified him as a lecturer, and for a time he held the position of District Deputy Grand Lecturer; 32nd District. Bruce was very passionate about philanthropy and became a member of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine — also known as Shriners International, and as a Shriner he was an enthusiastic supporter of the Shriners Hospitals for Children and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Bruce had an inquisitive mind and also a very diverse and wide-ranging skillset and enjoyed many hobbies and activities including but not limited to golf, billiards, magic, painting in the style of Bob Ross, cooking, listening to all types of music, and was an avid firearm collector and marksman. He was a licensed pilot, a gifted classical guitar player and a diehard fan of the Duke Blue Devils.

Bruce met, fell in love with and on the 7th of July 2007 married the love of his life — Joy Bondy née Zlatovich. They enjoyed living the beach lifestyle in Myrtle Beach, SC and they had many enjoyable years together. As a man of deep faith, he found great joy and purpose amongst his church family at Ignite Church — also in Myrtle Beach.

Although Bruce Bondy had many accomplishments, he would tell you his greatest accomplishment of all was being a father. He had an ineffably deep love for his children and loved nothing more than spending time with them. As a wonderful dad, he wholeheartedly supported the interests and passions of his two kids and enthusiastically shared his passions with them in return. He found great joy in taking his children to see new places and things. He also very much enjoyed taking his kids to the movies, and he got a great kick out of sharing things from his own childhood with them. Bruce looked forward to taking them to the NC State Fair every year. His role in their lives could never be replaced. Bruce was blessed to live long enough to witness his son grow and far surpass his own talent and accomplishments in the world of music, and to witness his daughter get married and produce a wonderful grandson whom he adored.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father Roy, his mother Maxine, all his grandparents, aunts and uncles, and his beloved wife Joy. He is survived by his half-brother, Brian Bondy and wife Sherrin; son, Brandon Bondy; daughter, Carmen Bondy; son-in-law Matthew Jonsdotter; grandson, Elliott Jonsdotter; nephew, Jacob Bondy, along with several cousins, extended family members and friends including but not limited to Mr. And Mrs. Keith Crittenton of Newport, NC, Ms. Sandra Cherry and the Cherry family of Wilmington, NC and the family of Mr. And Mrs. Mark Stephens of Durham, NC.

Bruce David Bondy will be missed beyond measure by his children and those who knew and loved him. He was truly a unique and special person, unlike anyone else. He had a deep soul, love in his heart, a wonderful sense of humor, a hearty laugh, and an irreplaceable smile. Bruce outlived Ozzy Osbourne.

Celebrations of Bruce’s life will be held both in Myrtle Beach, SC and Durham, NC, and will be announced at a later date. The family requests that any memorial contributions be made in Bruce’s Name to Shriners Children’s Hospitals or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
