Carlton Rowand Hauer, 94, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, with his beloved daughter at his side. Carlton was born in Camden, NJ on August 19, 1930, to Grace Rowand and Henry August Hauer Jr.
Carlton grew up in his family home in Laurel Springs, NJ. He graduated from Randolph-Macon College in 1953 where he was a biology major and a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was a Veteran of Foreign Wars of the United States Army; a member of SAR, Sons of the American Revolution; a 35-year employee at AT&T, retired in 1988 as an Engineering Associate. Once retired, Carlton moved to Vero Beach, FL.
Carlton cherished spending summers at the family lake house on Bantam Lake in Connecticut, where he took great joy in gardening, fishing, boating, BBQs, and making memories with his loved ones. Carlton loved relaxing on the beach and dock or floating on a raft. A puzzle was always in progress and board games were played on the deck. He loved the view of the lake from the deck while enjoying a Manhattan cocktail. During the winters in Vero Beach, he embraced an active lifestyle, enjoying tennis and long bicycle rides with friends.
Carlton was extremely thoughtful and generous. He never missed sending birthday, holiday and special occasion cards. Every Christmas season he would send citrus fruit boxes to the entire family. He always had a positive attitude. When asked how he was doing, his reply was “T-rific”!
Carlton was preceded in death by his parents Grace Rowand and Henry August Hauer Jr., his sister Jeanette Russell and his wife Alice.
Carlton is survived by his beloved family; his sister Patricia Myles and her husband Robert Myles, his son Carlton W. Hauer, his daughter Carole L. Hauer, his grandchildren; Maxx R. Hauer, Emma R. Hauer, Dylan T. Hauer, and his great-grandson Jayden Hauer, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
