With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Charles Glenn Thompson, known affectionately as Charlie, at the age of 73, in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Born on August 10, 1952, Charlie dedicated his life to his family, his country and his career.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife Karen, and their four children: Melissa (Robert) Krouse; Brian (Jacqueline) Thompson; Kevin Thompson (Jamila) and Britani (Dontell) Robinson. His life was further enriched by his 12 grandchildren, who knew him as “Grandpop.”
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Glenn Thompson Sr., his “Dad”, Eugene Karsay and mother, Adele Haigh Karsay.
A proud veteran, Charlie served in the United States Army, followed by a tenure in the National Guard. He carried out his service with honor and distinction, reflecting the values of duty and commitment that defined his life.
Charlie's academic journey began at Holy Innocents Grade School, followed by Northeast Catholic School for Boys, and culminated at LaSalle University, where he laid the groundwork for his future. His professional life was marked by significant roles at International Harvester, Navistar International and Oracle Corporation, where he excelled as an accountant and Project Manager. His career afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively, broadening his experiences and connecting him with people from many walks of life.
Beyond his career, Charlie found joy traveling with his wife. He was an avid bowler and golfer, always enjoying the camaraderie of the 19th hole. He also enjoyed reading, particularly the works of James Patterson. His life was one of love, loyalty and quiet strength, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
The family will honor the life of their beloved at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Tunnel to Towers or Mcleod Health Foundation (Hospice).
