Constance Smith Obituary

Constance (Connie) Moshoures Smith, 90, passed away June 5, 2021, at Grand Strand General Hospital.

Connie was born in Hildebran, NC on December 25, 1930, to the late Cade Abernathy Williams and Nell Wycoff Williams.  She graduated from Montreat Boarding School and then business college in North Carolina.  At 20, the fiercely independent Connie moved to Charlotte on her own and worked as a secretary.  She would move to Myrtle Beach in the following years to join her sister and mother.  She loved living in Myrtle Beach where she would eventually meet and marry Docky Moshoures in 1954.  Connie worked at the insurance office of Cameron, Smith and Woodbury for many years before joining the Moshoures family in owning and operating Mammy's Kitchen until they sold it in 1982.

Not one to be idle, Connie then pursued and received 2 Associates Degrees from Horry Georgetown Tech, one in Business Administration and one in Computer Sciences, while working as a manager at Akel's in Myrtle Beach.  She and her husband, Docky, were married for 32 years until his death in 1987.  In 1995, she married Alex J. Smith.

Although they only had 5 years together before his death in 2000, they packed a lot of happiness and fun into those short years, and the Smith family remained a loving and supportive second family for Connie.  Connie was very active in the tennis community in the 1970s and 1980s and was still playing into her 70s with the Super Seniors; she remained a devoted tennis fan until the end.  Connie never met a stranger, would help anyone who needed it, made friends everywhere she went and was considered a "second mom" to many of her children's friends.  If you asked how she was, she would say she was perfect - the world was wrong because she always wanted to make people laugh.

She taught her children (who are forever grateful) to have a strong work ethic and a sense of humor.  She was an amazing spirit who will be missed by so many people whose lives she touched. Connie was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Martha Williams Spurnock, and husbands, Docky Moshoures and Alex Smith.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Moshoures Crawford, of Marietta, GA, son, David Moshoures, daughter-in-law, Renee Moshoures, grandchildren, Jessica Dockter, David Lee Moshoures and Daniel Moshoures, and 5 great-grandchildren, Logan, Daniel, Jaxson, Marcus and Kaylee, all of Myrtle Beach.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Grand Strand Humane Society, 3241 Mr. Joe White Ave., Myrtle Beach, SC  29577.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
