Cynthia A. (York) Brown Obituary

Cynthia A. (York) Brown, age 65, of Conway, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, after a 19-month battle with lung and adrenal cancer.

Cynthia was born on November 1, 1960, in Bucyrus, Ohio, to James H. York and Donna M. (Rowalt) York. She graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1979. Cynthia first met the love of her life, Douglas L. Brown, in the summer of 1976 at Bucyrus High School Band Camp. They were later married at Good Hope Lutheran Church on February 3, 1979. That same year, Cynthia gave birth to their first daughter, April Lynn Brown, followed by their second daughter, Angela Marie Brown, the following year.

Cindy was a devoted stay-at-home mother for many years. Once her daughters were in high school, she began working at the Bucyrus Taco Bell and later as a bank teller at First Federal Community Bank. She was deeply involved in her daughters’ lives, both personally and spiritually. Cindy chaperoned school field trips and served as a mentor and chaperone for numerous Junior League trips through Good Hope Lutheran Church. She also taught Sunday School at Good Hope, which her daughters attended, and coordinated childcare for young children while their parents were in worship.

One of Cindy’s favorite places was the beach; she loved having her toes in the sand. She later became an avid shark-tooth hunter after finding her first megalodon tooth in a tide pool near the SkyWheel. Cindy and Doug made yearly pilgrimages to Myrtle Beach around her birthday to enjoy the warm waters and temperate fall climate. Their love for the area eventually led them to relocate from Omaha, Nebraska, to Conway, South Carolina, upon retirement.

Cindy cherished holidays and made each one magical. She especially loved being a grandmother and was always the “fun grandma,” whether playing Pie Face, enjoying a quick game of Candy Land, riding amusement park rides, or taking trips to the mall. She adored her grandchildren, Santino, Abigail, and Vincent, with all her heart.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, James H. and Donna M. (Rowalt) York of Bucyrus, Ohio, and by David York of South Pittsburg, Tennessee.

She is survived by her husband, Douglas Brown of Conway, SC; daughters, April (Brown) McCaleb of La Vista, NE, and Angela (Brown) Felice of Delaware, OH; brothers, Bradley York, Donald York, and Mark York of Bucyrus, OH; sister, Laurie York of Bucyrus, OH; grandchildren, Abigail McCaleb of La Vista, NE, and Santino and Vincent Felice of Delaware, OH; and her mother-in-law, Maxine (Lunger) Brown of Bucyrus, OH.

In keeping with Cindy’s wishes, no services will be held. The family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace with the Lord and invites others to remember her in prayer.
