Daniel W. Schlett, age 87 of Murrells Inlet went home to the arms of his loving Savior on Sunday, February 21, 2021
Born in Camden, NJ, on July 11, 1933, he was the son of the late Daniel and Ruby Schlett. Upon graduation from Friends Central School in Philadelphia, PA, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps in July 1954. It would be the first of three moves to South Carolina, the state that he loved deeply and that had launched his career and he proudly called home. He attended Wharton School of Finance at The University of Pennsylvania and Temple University. He had been a guest lecturer for Fordham University, Vice President of City of Hope, Bronx, NY, and Director of The Boy Scouts Council in Texas. He also was President of Andrews Wire Corp in Andrews, SC and Gallatin, TN, President of Georgetown, Texas Steel Corp in Beaumont, TX and Group Vice President with Korf Operating Company in the United State and President of Hurricane Industries of Houston, TX. In 1984, Mr. Willy Korf, former owner of Georgetown Steel Corp, recruited Mr. Schlett to President and CEO of his two new acquisitions, Connecticut Steel Corp of Wallingford, CT and Ocean States Steel of Providence, RI. The two companies were purchased by a Swiss firm after Willy Korf’s untimely death in 1991. Mr. Schlett returned to South Carolina in 1992 and established Arthur Webster, LLD and Rex Company, LLC.
Prior to his operation for a brain tumor in 1998, a country preacher gave him words of great comfort, “Focus on Jesus, let Him focus on the tumor”.
Surviving is his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara; sons, Daniel, Jeffrey and Kyle; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
Services will be announced at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Seaside Community Church, PO Box 16647, Surfside Beach, SC 29587 or St. Jude’s Children's Hospital.
