Donald Joseph Rohrer, age 82 of Surfside Beach passed away Sunday, February 16, 2020 of National Health Care of Garden City.
Born February 27, 1937 in Rochester, NY, he was the son of the late Harold and Kathryn W. Rohrer. Mr. Rohrer attended Rochester Institute of Technology, where he was a member of the honorary fraternity Delta Lambda Epsilon. He graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Photographic Science and later was chapter treasurer for the professional Society of Photographic Scientists and Engineers. Mr. Rohrer was a US Army veteran serving as a specialist in image interpretation during the Berlin crisis. He continued to enjoy photography as well as computers, cooking, sports and travel combining the last with his great love "Golf" as a member of the International Society of Golf Addicts. Surviving are his wife, Heather H. Rohrer. MD; sons, Peter of Wendell, NC, Timothy (Silvia) of San Diego, CA,, Jay (Karen Cullen) of Manitou Springs, CO, James Thompson, Jr.MD of Spartanburg, SC, Gary (Kristen) of Marysville, TN; daughters, Karen of Alpharetta, GA and Kathryn of Bayonne, NJ; sister, Jean Johnston of Rochester, NY; brother, Gerald Rohrer (Charlene) of Kernersvillle, NC; grandchildren, Alexander of Atlanta, GA, Alexander Netherland of Nashville, TN, Brittany of Atlanta, GA, Amanda (Wyatt Jones) of Zebulon, NC, Christian Ray of Misenheimer, NC, Joseph of Wendell, NC, Danielle Netherland of Knoxville, TN, Samantha of King, NC, Thomas and Matthew and Julia of San Diego, CA and great grandchildren, Avery and Dalton Jones of Zebulon, NC.
Inurnment at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC has been postponed until further notice.
