Donna Vibbert Obituary

Donna Joyce (Detar) Vibbert, age 82, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and formerly from Warren, PA., passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.  Donna was born on valentine’s day, February 14, 1942, to Carl Lorraine Detar and Hazel Leota Blair Detar in Bradford, PA.

Donna grew up in Bradford with her brother Dan and sisters, Linda, Joan and Wanda.  While finishing school and working at a local restaurant, she met the love of her life; Alonza (Al, Sonny) Vibbert.  They were married May 26, 1962, and brought to life three feisty, independent, and sometimes bratty children: Misty, Alan, and Kelly.  They lived a simple yet adventurous life for nearly 63 years of marriage.  Making their home in Warren County, PA., for many years.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents; Carl Detar (1985) and Hazel Blair Detar (1962), brother: Daniel Detar (2017).  Granddaughter: Delaney (2012); brothers-in-law: John Lican (2022), Clarence Butch Vibbert (2014); sisters-in-law: Nancy Vibbert Clark (1989) and Carol Braun.  As well as their beloved dog of 16 years Kasey (2023).

After her children left the nest, they moved to South Carolina.  Over the course of her life she was employed as an accountant, running her own business preparing income taxes, obtaining an Associate Degree in Business.  She retired from BCBS of South Carolina after 17 years of service.

Donna enjoyed camping with family and relatives, baking, gardening, canning, knitting, walking on the beach, and reading a good book.  They bought a motor home after her retirement and traveled from Pennsylvania to South Carolina following the weather.  Donna battled a life with Ankylosing Spondylitis, her bravest challenge in life was undergoing experimental spinal surgery in the mid 70’s to correct her spine.  She braved many more challenges throughout her life and wrote a personal memoir story detailing her life with Ankylosing Spondylitis.  This story was published in Readers Digest which gave hope and inspiration to many sufferings and battling the same disease.  Each letter she received she answered back with encouragement and hope.

Donna never once let her disease and challenges let that get in her way of enjoying life with family and friends with a smile on her face and love in her heart.  Donna was truly a brave woman and the pioneer woman for modern day back surgery.  She loved time with many family members along with her 10 grandchildren: Kachina, Danielle, Heather, Chelsie, Olivia, Quinn, Annabelle, Amber, Nicky, and Baby Delaney whom she never had the chance to meet; and 7 great grandchildren; Aiden, Cameron, Alonzo, Adrianna, Mileena, Karis, and Archer.

Donna is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years: Alonza (Al, Sonny) Vibbert; children: Misty (Tim) Bius, Alan (Krista) Vibbert, Kelly (Chris) Wynn; 3 sisters, and many brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, as well as many dear friends she met along the way.  She was a true testament to bravery, determination, and the ability to overcome adversity.  She has given love and hope to many over her life and will be deeply missed.

The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
