Douglas Liszka Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Joseph Liszka announce his passing on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at the age of 63. He passed while holding his beloved wife, Jessica’s hand as he left to be with the Lord.

Doug was born on December 22, 1960 in Brooklyn, New York. He began his journey as a New York City Police Officer helping to save lives and make a difference in all he touched around him. Eventually, he would find that working in construction with the 282 teamsters was his passion as he loved to see the job from start to finish. This also rang true to his self-taught amazing cooking and baking skills. As many know, Doug loved to break bread and feed everyone around the table with delight.

Doug will be lovingly remembered by the love of his life, Jessica Masser, whom he married on a joyous day prior to his passing. He will be deeply missed by his surviving brother Michael Liszka, sister-in-law Helene Liszka, nephew Michael Liszka, niece Ashley Liszka; sister-in-law Kay Liszka, niece Stacy Liszka; and numerous other family members and friends.

Doug was predeceased by his parents, Richard Leo Liszka and Margaret Christine Liszka; brother Ricky Liszka; and niece Katie Liszka.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 11, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, 5101 Ocean Hwy W, Shallotte, NC 28470.

Lunch and the opportunity of shared memories of Doug will take place immediately following the service in the fellowship hall at St Brendan’s Catholic Church.

Memorial Donations in Doug’s name may be made where he adopted his beloved Onyx from Kind Keepers, 1500 LD Drive, North Myrtle Beach, SC, 29582. Donations may also be made to McLeod Hospice, 1203 E Cheves St, Florence, SC 29506 for all of the support they provided during this difficult time, especially his compassionate nurse Candice.
