Edward A. Ehrmantraut Jr. Obituary

Edward Andrew Ehrmantraut, Jr, 79, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away on the morning of Saturday, September 28, 2024.  He was in his home and surrounded by family as he left this world peacefully and finally pain free.

Ed was born on October 24, 1944 in Washington, D.C. to the late Edward Andrew and Catherine Evelyn Ehrmantraut.  He grew up the younger of two surviving children. Mary Catherine, his older sister preceded him in death; his baby brother Thomas died shortly after birth in 1946.  Ed was also preceded in death by his friend and father-in-law, James.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Marcie; his children Dawn (husband Jason), Jennifer and Chad (wife Laurie).  In addition to his immediate children, he is survived by his extended bonus family which include sons, David and Keith (wife Yenny), mother-in-law, Nancy and his loving in-laws, Dick, Donna (husband Edward), Melinda (husband Steve) and Daryl (wife Tammy).   Known as Pop-Pop, he was the very proud grandfather to 9 beautiful grandchildren: Catie, Collin, Corey, Megan, Emily, Julia, Whitney, Aiden and Ethan.  He was also the proud great-grandfather of beautiful Maria. We cannot leave out his love for his dogs, they were also his family.  His boys Cooper and Bentley already miss him dearly.  Harper, Macy, Quincy and Jackson, are surely at his side again – as they were in this life.

Growing up in Washington, D.C., Ed attended Catholic School and was a proud graduate of St. John’s High School.  He entered the D.C. Police Academy shortly after graduation, where he led a distinguished career retiring in 1988 as Sergeant.  Ed moved to Manassas in 1969 purchasing his first home just a few houses down from his mother and father.  While in Manassas VA, he was blessed with three beautiful children and is also where he met his love and best friend, Marcie.  Ed continued his professional career after retiring by running Bull Run Officials Organization.  He was the proud President and Commissioner and truly loved his work as an active referee and umpire working scholastic and recreational leagues.

Ed and Marcie made a beautiful life together, blending the lives of five children and providing memories to last a lifetime.  Ed loved his home on the river, in Colonial Beach where he hosted many family gatherings filled with love, laughter, crabs and rockfish!  He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed time on his boat with his Captain Marcie at the helm.  He taught his grandchildren how to bait a hook and reel them in, how to pick a Maryland Blue Crab, how to ride Jet Skis and how to find Shark Teeth!

Ed was also an avid sports fan and spent his life cheering on the local Washington sports teams, including his favorites the Redskins and Senators/Nationals.  He was thrilled with the return of D.C. Baseball!   He also enjoyed college football, especially the Hokies and Gamecocks.  Ed loved a good game and a good time (which wasn’t always easy with the sports teams listed above!).  We would be remiss if we left out Ed and Marcie’s incredible Annual Kentucky Derby party hosted in their beautiful backyard – it was a tradition loved by his friends and family.

Ed’s dream of fully retiring to Myrtle Beach, SC where he spent years vacationing with his children, finally came true in 2017.   Like his time in Colonial Beach, he hosted many family gatherings in Myrtle Beach where his family enjoyed golfing, great seafood, a fine cocktail and time on the beach.  When he was not on the beach enjoying retirement, he was on a Cruise with his beloved wife and friends.  He enjoyed his time vacationing with Marcie and their incredible friends.

Ed taught us so much about life – he was the family rock.  He may have been a soft spoken, gentle and kind man, but he was a fierce guardian to his family.  He loved us deeply and protected us above all.  His warm smile and welcoming attitude will be greatly missed.

A very casual celebration of life will be held Sunday November 24, 2024, from 1-6pm, at the Sweeney Barn 9310 Discovery Blvd. Manassas, VA  20109. www.sweeneybarn.com
