Elizabeth DiCamillo Obituary

Elizabeth (Liz, Lizzy) DiCamillo, 62, passed away on Thursday, December 23rd, 2021 following a short battle with cancer. She passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Lizzy was born on June 11th, 1959 to Jerry and Helen Mahon in Newport, RI. The family, including twin sister Cathy, moved quite a few times in the US and Europe and settled in Darien, CT in 1971. Lizzy graduated high school in 1977 from the New Hampton School and took a job with Texaco in Westchester, NY. In 1979 Lizzy decided to serve her country and enlisted in the US Army as a Military Police Officer. She was stationed at several US bases and ended her military career in Stuttgart, Germany where she met her first husband Pete and where her daughter Catherine Joy was born. Pete and Lizzy parted ways and Lizzy returned to the US and lived in Connecticut, raising her daughter Catherine as a single parent. In 1999 Lizzy attended a singles dance with friends where she met the love of her life, John DiCamillo. They were married in 2001 and they ran DiCamillo Marble and Granite Company together for many years. They also owned Arrivederci Trattoria, a high-end Italian restaurant in Sherman, CT where John loved to cook and Lizzy loved to welcome their guests. In 2011 Lizzy and John decided to help her mom Helen and moved in with her at Carolina Trace in Sanford, NC. There they became very active in the community and made many lasting friendships. Lizzy became an avid tennis player and found a passion in making greeting cards. She was Vice President of the Carolina Trace Northshore POA and volunteered numerous hours towards events held at the Carolina Trace Country Club. In 2019 Lizzy and John decided to move to Myrtle Beach, SC after finding a gorgeous house on a lake in the Plantation Lakes community. John built an amazing outdoor kitchen and Lizzy once again got involved in community life, meeting great friends and volunteering her time. She became Co-President of the Social Committee and planned many wonderful events. Lizzy was predeceased by her parents, Jerry and Helen Mahon. She is survived by her devoted husband, John DiCamillo, of 20 years, her daughter Catherine (Mark) Soderberg, her twin sister Cathy (Dave) Wolmering, stepson Kenny (Brandie) DiCamillo, stepdaughter Maryanna (Derryl) Cloer, grandchildren Zachary and Aiden Soderberg, step-grandchildren Annabelle and Lily DiCamillo and Pearson Cloer, and nephews Rob and Jamie Wolmering. Lizzy loved her family and had a passion for life. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. A Celebration of Life for Lizzy is planned on Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 11am-3pm at the Plantation Lakes Clubhouse, 205 Shoreward Drive, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579.
