Elizabeth Minyon Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Janet Minyon (nee Haaf), affectionately known as "Boops," of Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Fayetteville, NC, died on February 4, 2024, at the age of 68.

Born on July 6,1955 in Magnolia, NJ, to parents Fred and Elizabeth (Kuni) Haaf, Betty grew up with three sisters and five brothers. She attended Sterling High School, graduating in 1973. In 1974, Betty married the love of her life, Joseph Minyon, in a beautiful ceremony at St. Gregory Catholic Church in Magnolia, NJ. Together, they raised five sons and were blessed with ten grandchildren, Noah, Trenton, Emma, Lexi, Jace, Paige, Brittany, Lindsey, Trey, Charlize and great-granddaughter, Clarity.

Known for her creative cake decorating skills, Betty baked with love for family, friends and many military functions. Betty's hands were rarely still. She worked tirelessly to better her beloved community, serving as a volunteer for the Cliffdale Area Sports Association (CASA), as an employee of Cumberland County Parks and Recreation and finally the City of Fayetteville Parks and Recreation. The Minyon family home in Fayetteville became a neighborhood hub thanks to Betty's welcoming nature and open-door policy.

An avid watcher of tv crime dramas and a lover of Samuel Adams Boston Lager, all things Betty Boop and a view of the ocean, Betty found her greatest joy in her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her quiet strength, immeasurable courage, unconditional acceptance and her devotion to Joe, her husband of 49 years.

Survived by her husband Joseph Minyon of Myrtle Beach, SC, her sons Joseph "Joey" Minyon, Jr. (Chloe) of Midlothian, VA, Dominick Minyon (Jayla) of Lafayette, LA, Travis Minyon (Meghan) of Pittsburgh, PA, Joshua Minyon of Greensboro, NC and John Yi (Sophia) of Fayetteville, NC, she will also be remembered by her grandchildren, great-granddaughter, sisters Lily "Lil" Sullivan (Jay) of Fredericksburg, VA, Dorie Daiutolo (Ray) of Magnolia, NJ, Trudi Raspa of Cherry Hill, NJ, brothers Rick Haaf (Marci) of Union Beach, NJ, George Haaf (Debi) of Gibbsboro, NJ, Gary Haaf (Donna) of Haddon Heights, NJ and John "Jake" (May) Haaf of New York, NY and her cherished best friend, Susan Johnson (Jerry) of Raeford, NC. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Hank.
