Eugene "Gene" Miller Obituary

Eugene Miller passed away on June 7, 2022, at the age of 71 in Conway, South Carolina.

Gene was born on July 20, 1950, in Nelsonville, Ohio to the late Regina and Lowell Miller.  Gene was a kind man who got along well with everybody.  His wife, Jill called him the “camp counselor” because he always had plenty of ideas for their next adventure.  He had a zest for life and wanted everyone to share it with him, even going so far as to inform them that they were “burning daylight” if they didn’t jump up at the crack of dawn to get going.  Gene was a gifted athlete in high school and college where he was a two-time All-American decathlete.  After graduating from Ohio University, he entered the Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in Quantico, VA and served 12 years earning the rank of Captain.  Upon leaving the Marine Corps, he began a career in manufacturing management which spanned 18 years.  His military and management careers gave him and his family the opportunity to live in and travel to many different areas of the U.S. and abroad.  As a military officer and manufacturing manager he was a respected and admired leader by all that worked with him.  His love of sailing was the one constant in his life from his teenage years to his death.  Being a very knowledgeable and gifted sailor, he was always mentoring others and sharing information to help them become better sailors.  He spent the last six years of his life sailing with the Lake Waccamaw Sailing Club and made many treasured friends during that time.  He was also a substitute teacher since 2016 and discovered that he really enjoyed working with middle school students.  He will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives he touched throughout his lifetime.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell E. and Regina Miller and his sister, Judy Fisher (Doug).

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Jill Ewell Miller; three sons, Brian, Eric and Kyle; brothers, Jack and Scott (Janet); sisters, Nancy Jarosiewicz (Ronald) and Gina Briscoe (Bob).

Services will be at a later date.
