Gary Curtis Baxter passed away on September 6, 2024, at Embrace Hospice House in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Gary was born in Canton, Ohio to Harvey and Miriam (Sprankle) Baxter. Gary graduated from Glenwood High School in 1961 and the completed his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Business at Adrian College in Adrian, MI in 1965. Gary enlisted in the United States Army in January 1966 and was honorably discharged in December 1967, after serving in 1st BN 33rd Armor Division.
Gary is survived by his wife of 55 years, June Baxter, his daughter, Vanessa (Tom Meese) Stergios, son, Shane (Jess) Baxter and grandchildren: Alex and Kristos Stergios, Amanda, Sean, Sofia, Daniella and Shane Jr. Baxter and bonus grandchildren: Leeanna (Nick) Spranke and Mikela (Hunter) Smith, Matt Eatherton, Kristen, Michelle Villanueva and Tatianna Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Conner, Nicole, and Hadley. Also, surviving is his cousin June Seibert, sister-in-law, Janice (Gene) Feller and brother-in-law, David (Suellen) Purdum, and sister-in-law, Jeannie (Dallas) Purdum as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death, by his parents, Harvey and Miriam Baxter, brother, Richard "Dick" (Norma) Baxter, nephews Pat (Claudia) and Rick (Lou) Baxter, his in-laws, Dallas and Francis Purdum, brother-in-law, Dallas (Jeannie) Purdum and son-in-law, Perry Stergios.
Gary and June spent most of their married life at Lake Mohawk, Ohio and permanently relocated to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina in 2020. Gary loved playing the game of golf almost as much as life itself, sharing many rounds with his wife June and many friends, at Lake Mohawk, Ohio and around Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Gary was an amazing and supportive husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with this family and friends and taught by example how to be a giving and loving person. He may not have ever met a stranger and in his younger years was known as the neighborhood basketball player.
Arrangements are being handled by funeral home Cremation Services Direct, in Myrtle Beach, SC. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Lake Mohawk Golf Club to dedicate a memorial bench in Gary's name. Donations can be mailed to LMGC at 22 East Mohawk Drive, Malvern, Ohio 44644.
