Gary A. McGrath, age 76, of Aynor, SC, passed away Friday, March 20, 2026 at his home with his wife by his side.

Born November 13, 1949 in Burlington, VT, Gary was a graduate of Burlington High School. Gary served his country as a US Air Force Veteran. For over 40 years, he worked with dedication and pride for Hannaford Bros. making lifelong friends and a respected career.

Gary was a lifelong music lover. He was an avid bass guitar player in his youth. In 1967, Gary’s Beach Boys cover band competed at Memorial Auditorium in Burlington, VT at the Battle of the Bands. Although they took 2nd place, this was one of many of his proud accomplishments during his lifetime. Gary married his wife Darla A. McGrath, October 24, 1970. Gary had a passion for anything with a motor, and loved his family above all else. He spent his time with his family, traveling, and attending as many car shows and cruise-ins as he could convince Darla of. Gary was a professional judge of his granddaughter‘s pool gymnastics, and always backed anything that interested them. Gary had unwavering support and love for his daughter, and stood by her throughout his life. He enjoyed NASCAR, golf, and the occasional video game with his son. Gary’s crown jewel, however, was Darla. Partners from their youth, their life, their retirement, to his passing, Gary and Darla were the definition of a team.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Darla McGrath and their beloved dog Parker, his son, Justin McGrath and his wife, Jennifer of Ballston Lake, NY. His daughter,  Tracy Keller and her partner Gage Barfield of Aynor, SC, and his two granddaughters, Layla and Teagan, who were Papa’s world. Gary is also survived by one brother, John A. McGrath of Ocala, FL, his grand-puppies, Stafford and Hutch,and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. And Grace McGrath. 

Gary will be remembered for his thoughtfulness, humor, kindness, and generosity. He had a quick wit and a warm heart.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in New York.
