Gerald Lee Sweeney

Gerald “Jerry” Lee Sweeney, 79, of Surfside Beach, SC, died Friday, May 22, 2020 at Embrace Hospice House of the Grand Strand.

Jerry was born September 21, 1940 in Washington, DC to the late James Sweeney and Francis Moffett.

Jerry worked for Giant Food Inc. for 36 years. He retired in 1995, at the age of 55, to Surfside Beach, SC where he lived for 25 years with his wife of 60 years, Nancy.

Jerry loved living and relaxing by the beach. He enjoyed working in his yard and could often be found playing a round of golf at one of the local courses. Jerry loved life and enjoyed meeting and talking with people. He had a quick wit and was always ready with a joke to make people laugh. His many friends and neighbors in Surfside Beach would attest that Jerry was a true beach bum.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister Deborah and her husband Greg.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by; three sons, Dennis (Darla) Sweeney, Michael (Donna) Sweeney and Charles (Karen) Sweeny; One sister, Jody (Jim) Sweeney; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at a later time.
