With profound sadness, we say goodbye to James Dooley of Myrtle Beach, SC, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of so many. After a long and courageous battle in hospice care, Jim passed away at home on September 14, 2024, at the age of 84, in the company of his loving daughter.
Born in Suffern, NY, and raised in Mahwah, NJ, Jim cherished 18 wonderful years in Venice, FL, before returning to Warwick, NY, where he spent most of his life.
In retirement, James dedicated his time to volunteering at St. Stephen’s Church, doing cafeteria duty, and worked briefly as a bailiff in town. During the summers, he enjoyed his time at Greenwood Lake Beach, where he enjoyed getting to know the lifeguards and making plenty of friends with the beachgoers. He was an active member of the American Legion, where he especially loved organizing the Boys State program.
James was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Dooley. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Dooley.
A small celebration of life was held at the family home in Myrtle Beach. A Mass Service is planned for Friday March 14, 2025, at 10:30am at First Martyr Church located at 75 Sanfordville Road, Warwick, NY 10990. Following the service a procession will depart to the Ramapo Reformed Cemetery Located at 100 Island Road, Mahwah, NJ07430.
