Janet Chalk Rice, 89, a longtime resident of Oceanside Village, Surfside Beach, SC, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, after a happy and loving life with her family. Janet was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 13, 1936.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Rober “Bob” Rice, a brother, Alan Chalk, and a son, Jay Bryant.
Janet is survived by daughter, Kerry Ricks of Charlotte, NC, Sons, David (Vickie) Rice of Surfside Beach, SC, and Kevin (Brigette) Rice of Grapevine, TX.
Grandsons, Ryan and Shaun Ricks, Adam (Rachael) Jay, Granddaughters, Natalie Lafrate, Hannah (Fabi) Jay. Janet also leaves behind four great grandchildren, Carson, Alexei, Neyland and Andi Jay.
Janet loved the beach and being a part of the entertaining beach community. She was a meticulous bookkeeper her entire working life. She enjoyed cooking and had an extensive collection of personal recipes.
Janet enjoyed reading and especially watching Tennis, the Olympics, and any wildlife animal shows in her spare time.
More than anything she had an unending love and devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren and of late in life watching her great grandchildren run and play inside her home.
To sum up in one word who Janet was in life would be “MOM” to several generations and her family returned all the love and devotion she had poured into their lives and returned every drop back to her.
Janet will be missed by her family and all who had the joy of knowing her.
At this time no memorial or service are planned.
