Jeanne was born on July 16,1923 in Cresson, PA, the eldest of six children of Clair and Helen (Kearney) Eckenrode; she was the descendent of early settlers in Eastern Pennsylvania and Cambria County. After graduating from Cresson High School in 1942, Jeanne worked for the local draft board until the end of World War II. She subsequently had a career of over twenty years as office manager of Cooney Brothers Coal Company. She married Joseph Charles Hoover of Cresson on December 28, 1946.
Survived by her loving children, Joan (William) Schettig, Gayle (Joseph Nagy) Hoover, and William (Lesyle) Hoover. She was a kind and devoted “Nanny” to her grandchildren: Amy, Collier (Julie), Rachel (Matt), Chloe, Karl (Kristina), Stefan (Kasey), Linsey (Alan) and Krysta (Shay). She was also a proud great grandmother. Jeanne was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-four years, Joseph C. Hoover; her parents, Clair and Helen; sisters, Dorothy Budde and Ellen Jane Wilk Maines; and brothers Walter, Adrian, and Clifford.
With a zest for life, Jeanne enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a long-standing member of bowling leagues in Cresson, which is how she met her husband. A member of card clubs in Cresson and Glenwood Springs, Jeanne liked playing pinocle and poker. She kept a sharp mind by challenging her children and grandchildren to Scrabble, working crossword puzzles and playing Solitaire on her iPad. Her company, jokes, and cooking will be greatly missed.
