Jerry Lee Suhr, born October 19, 1938, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 24, 2026. Throughout his life, he faithfully served Jesus, ministering, and sharing the message of Salvation.  His love for people and his willingness to serve led him on a lifelong journey of service, meeting thousands of people along the way as he started churches, Christian schools, Bible colleges, and worked to further the cause of Christ.

He was born the third of six children and was proud to be known in his hometown of Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. as one of the “Suhr boys”.  He had a lifelong passion for music, was proficient on several instruments, including the tuba which he played in the marching band, and the cornet which he played in the orchestra. He also had a beautiful singing voice, belonged to the chorus and glee club, sang in several musicals in high school, and was a member of the drama club.

During his high school years, he rode everywhere on his beloved horse, Sachmo.  His memories of his excursions with Sach were often re-told and brought him great joy!

Jerry was a gifted artist. Following his graduation from high school in Wellsboro, he attended Williamsport Technological Institute where he completed a program in Commercial Art/Technical Illustration.  While living in Williamsport, he came to a saving knowledge of Jesus.  His desire to expand his Christian education prompted him to attend Philadelphia College of Bible.  After his time in Philadelphia, he became reacquainted with Marjorie Finch, also from Wellsboro.  Their shared desire to serve God strengthened their bond, and they were married in June, 1965.

After their marriage, together they attended Practical Bible Training School in Binghamton, New York, then furthered their education at Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, Missouri, where Jerry received his B.S. in Biblical Language.  Jerry thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Bible in the original languages of Hebrew and Greek. During subsequent years, he earned his Master’s Degree in Biblical Literature, followed by his Doctorate of Theology from Bethany Theological Seminary.  Jerry and Marge embarked on a shared lifetime of Christian ministry that covered ten states, inspiring a legacy of service and leadership. 

Jerry was a fun-loving dad to two daughters, and was willing to try fashion choices, hairstyles, as well as new recipes that they foisted upon him.  He was endlessly patient, a tireless cheerleader, truly desiring only the absolute best for his family.  He loved to draw silly doodles that he often turned into stories, make funny faces, play games, and was an unparalleled bedtime storyteller.  He was an incredible father-in-law, and he deeply loved his four grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed hearing about their latest adventures and accomplishments. His unconditional love and unwavering support for his family will forever be treasured.

He was very witty and spread joy to all who crossed his path.  People often commented about how much they loved seeing him because they knew he would greet them with a huge smile and genuine interest in how they were doing.  He leaves behind countless people whose lives he touched in meaningful and positive ways.

Jerry was preceded in death by the love of his life, Marjorie (Finch), with whom he shared 59 years of marriage. His greatest desire was to be reunited with her in heaven.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Iola (Pope) Suhr, stepmother Glenora Suhr, sister Judith Musingo, brothers H. James, John, and Jock Suhr and several sisters-in-law.  He is survived by daughters Gail Suhr of Butler, PA, and, Janet Vossberg (David) of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren Raeann Vossberg (Jared) of Denver, CO, Anson Vossberg of Charleston, SC, Joshua and Jeremiah Suhr of Butler, PA. Also surviving him are his brother, Jeff (Beverly) Suhr of Roanoke, VA, brother-in-law Thomas Musingo of Blossburg, PA, and many nieces and nephews.

A service celebrating his life will be held on May 30, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Grand Strand Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach, SC.
