Jim Joseph Montgomery Obituary

Jim J. Montgomery, 80, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and friend, passed away July 14, 2026, in his Myrtle Beach home surrounded by family, pastors and friends.  He was born May 13, 1946, in Homestead, PA, to parents Harry and Stella Montgomery.  He grew up in Boquet, PA, graduated from Penn Joint High School in 1964 and was a resident of Mt. Pleasant, PA, before moving to Myrtle Beach, SC.  He retired from Menasha Corporation, Yukon, PA, after 35 years of service.  He was a Navy veteran, lifetime member of the American Legion and a true patriot displaying the American Flag with honor and pride.  Jim received a “Quilt of Valor” in 2022 in front of his church family and friends.  He was a member of Reunion Presbyterian Church, Mt. Pleasant, PA, for 45 years and current member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Surfside Beach, SC.  In his younger years, he loved to run and participated in many 10K road races in PA and the Pittsburgh marathon.  He also served the community by being a Webelo’s Boy Scout leader.  An avid Steeler fan he never missed a game whether in person or on TV and enjoyed playing golf. 


Jim is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Hartman) Montgomery of 59 years; son, Michael T. Montgomery and wife Renata, grandsons Ian and Alexander Montgomery; brother, Robert Montgomery and wife Sheila; brother-in-law Edward Hartman and wife Edna and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Montgomery.


The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, 1:00 PM, with Memorial Service to follow at 2:00 PM at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2061 Glenns Bay Road, Surfside Beach, SC  29575.  A light reception will be held following the service.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2061 Glenns Bay Road, Surfside Beach, SC  29575.
