Joan "Joanie" Spelman Obituary

Joan “Joanie” Spelman, age 76, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2026.


Joan was born October 14, 1949 in Boston, MA, a daughter of the late Eugene Francis and Mary Elizabeth Barrell Spelman.  She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and volunteered at Waccamaw Hospital for many years.  Joan also volunteered at St. James High School Library for many years. She loved to take long walks, work in her garden, baking and had a taste for the sweeter things in life.  She retired from the Montgomery County Maryland Library System as a Librarian.  Joan loved the beach and loved spending time at the Outer Banks.  She was predeceased by a brother, Martin Spelman.


Surviving are two sisters, Peggy Renoe and her husband, John and Kathie Sher, her nieces and nephews, Joe Grauer, Chelsea Renoe, Thomas Renoe, Michael Renoe and Mary Spelman.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 542 Cypress Avenue Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
