John A. Cannon Jr.

January 19, 1941 ~ July 27, 2020 (age 79)


John Andrew Cannon Jr., 79, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina passed away peacefully on July 27, 2020 at Embrace Hospice House of the Grand Strand after struggling with dementia.

John was born on January 19, 1941 in Washington, DC to the late John A. Cannon Sr., and Ona Helen Reagan.

He was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland where he graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 1959. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1961 and proudly served until June of 1967. He married Patricia E. Farran in 1964 and had two children, Tara Lee Cannon in 1968 and John A. Cannon the 3rd in 1971. In 1980 he married Pamela E. Turner and became a stepfather to Herald W. Hirst the 3rd and Alicia K. Divens. John retired in 1997 after a long 32-year career with P.E.P.C.O. John and Pam moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1997.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his wife and other beloved family members.

Surviving to remember John is; one daughter, Tara Lee Cannon White and her partner Christopher A. Cary; one son, John Andrew Cannon the 3rd; one step-son Herald W. Hirst the 3rd; one step-daughter Alicia Turner Divens and husband Brad; one sister, Margaret Cannon Schwartz and husband Phillips M. Schwartz; four grandchildren, Jacob Anthony White, Jessica Lee White, Sophia R. Divens, and Emily D. Cary; two nephews, Christopher and Richard; one Niece, Alexandra; five great nephews; his best friend, Robert T. Jones and wife Vickie; his good friend Donna Rosenberry and husband Dallas; as well as all of his wonderful friends and neighbors.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that a memorial contribution in Johns name be made to The Dementia Society of America. Donations can be made online at or mailed to P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
