John Funkhouser passed away on September 17, 2021, at the age of 70. After spending many decades living in King of Prussia, PA, John had recently made his long-delayed retirement move to Longs, SC, where he planned on enjoying frequent trips to the beach and year-round greenery. John loved tending his numerous houseplants and taking walks with his wife Shirley. He was a devoted grandfather to his five grandchildren and loved spending time with them. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. Not one to share his thoughts freely, John’s pride and affection were always apparent to those who knew him. Always curious and inquisitive, he was the model lifelong learner.
John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley, sister Debra Romandy (Kenneth), daughters Kristine Nowak (Scott) and Deanna Treter (Christopher), grandchildren Magdalena, Molly, Adelaide, Henry, and Peter, as well as his nephews and their families.
A private memorial for the family will be scheduled at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a tribute gift to the McGuire Memorial Foundation, 545 Moon Clinton Road, Moon Twp PA 15108 (https://mcguirememorialfoundation.org), since John deeply appreciated the care McGuire Memorial continues to provide his great nephew.
