It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected and untimely passing of John David Gonska on November 17, 2024. John was a beloved son, father, brother, husband, uncle, & friend who brought joy, laughter, and love to everyone who knew him. 

John was born September 30, 1971, to his loving parents Paul and Bonnie Gonska. He was a native of Scio, NY graduating from Scio Central School.  Following in his father’s footsteps, John found his passion in law enforcement attending and graduating from the Central Police Services Training Academy in Buffalo, NY. Following graduation, he worked for both the Andover and Bolivar Police Departments and the Allegany County Jail in New York. John would later move to Myrtle Beach, SC where he worked as a Patrolman and Narcotics Officer for Myrtle Beach Police Department and later a Detective with the Horry County Police Department. Most recently, John was a Captain working for Elite Security Team. John was known to say however, with all these accomplishments, his biggest accomplishment was Nikolas and Ellie of whom he was so proud. John was known and will always be remembered for his large personality, sense of humor, unwavering friendship to all and his love of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

John is survived by his mother, Bonnie Gonska; children, Nikolas (Heather) Gonska & Ellie Sisk; and stepson Trey, siblings, Tom (Cindy) Gonska & Paul (Jenn) Gonska; wife, Billie Jo Gonska, nephews, Thomas (Courtney) Gonska & Tyler (Samantha) Gonska. He is preceded in death by his father Paul J. Gonska, niece Ashley Gonska, nephew Zackary Gonska, and stepson Brandon.
