John Robert Hartzell, 79, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina passed away unexpectedly on July 24, 2024.  John was born in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania on March 6, 1945.  John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Karen Cline Hartzell.  John and Karen lived in Valley Grove, West Virginia until they retired to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 2020.  John is survived by his nieces and nephews and his “puppy”, Bernie. 

John was a retired teacher from McGuffey School District in Claysville. PA, where he spent his career as a band director.  During the course of their marriage, John and Karen were avid international travelers.  John will be remembered for his sense of humor, love of hockey, and his endearing relationship with his dogs.
