John Joseph Hickey Jr.
December 28, 1941 ~ January 25, 2024 (age 82) 82 Years Old
John Hickey, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the community, passed away on January 25th, 2024, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Born in Staten Island, New York in December 1941 to loving parents who instilled in him a strong Catholic faith and unwavering dedication to family and community.
John dedicated over forty years of his life to a distinguished career as a sales trader on Wall Street. His commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. Beyond his professional accomplishments, John's true legacy lies in the impact he made through his selfless service to others.
As a devoted husband to Maureen for sixty years, John exemplified what it means to be an unwavering partner through life's joys and challenges. Together they raised three children: Dr. Kathleen Hickey Bendziewicz, Michael Hickey, and Colleen LaFontaine; each one carrying forward their father's values of hard work and kindness into their own lives.
His love extended beyond his immediate family as well - seven grandchildren were blessed with his guidance and affection throughout their formative years: Mackenzie Hickey, Keegan Hickey, Quinn Hickey, Jacqueline Bendziewicz, Myles Hickey, Madeline Bendziewicz, and Colin Bendziewicz.
In addition to being an exceptional family man, John was deeply involved in various charitable endeavors that reflected his generous spirit. As a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, he lived out the organization's principles of charity by actively supporting those less fortunate within both local communities where he resided.
He also served on the board of his homeowners association where he worked tirelessly for the betterment of all residents' quality-of-life concerns. John also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and traveling to spend time with family and friends.
The impact John had on those around him is immeasurable; countless individuals have been touched by his warmth and generosity over the years.
A mass will be held at St Michael Catholic Church (542 Cypress Ave Murrells Inlet SC) at 11 am on Monday, February 5th where friends can gather together during this difficult time to celebrate John's remarkable life while finding comfort among one another.
Though we mourn our loss deeply today we take solace in knowing that John leaves behind an enduring legacy built upon love, faithfulness & service which will continue inspiring generations yet unborn long after we've said our final goodbyes.
