John E. Marklis, age 87, passed away, May 24, 2022, at his residence.
John was born in Boston, MA., a son of Paul and Helen Alice Lemish Marklis. John was an Army National Guard Reserve. John was a man that knew no strangers. He was a friendly, loving, likable and had a great sense of humor. To know him was to love him.
John's passions were boating, fishing, and dancing, but one passion trumped them all and that was his love and art for making ceramics, something that he has done since he was 15 years old. John made everything from Disney figures, lighthouses and churches, but his prized creations were his angels. So much so that he was known to some that valued his work as, John the Angel man. You see, John didn't just make these angels for himself and the joy of it, he made them to give away, mostly to people John never knew or had just met. He loved knowing he could bring a moment of joy to someone that would and could last a lifetime. He lived for that simple pleasure that came with every moment of handing over a well-prepared Angel to someone he loved to see them smile. John was one of the rare ones, the good ones. I'm sure he is now making Angels in heaven, as he flies among them. Go rest high on that mountain John. Rest easy in the arms of God. Your time on earth may be through but you'll live on in the hearts of all who knew you. Fly high Angel Man and know you made a difference down here on earth.
Surviving is his friend: Kelly Faith Payne; brother: Joseph Marklis; nieces: Alice and Regina; nephews: John, Michael, Joe, Jeff, and Eric.
Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 AM Friday, June 24, 2022, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Garden City.
