Joseph John Robbins, age 87, passed peacefully at home on Sunday, November 24, 2024 with his beloved wife, Bobbie, and their dog Murphy, at his side.
“Joey”, as he was known growing up, was born May 13, 1937 in Trenton, New Jersey; the only child of carpenter and World War II Air Raid Warden, Alfred J. Robbins, and wife Bertha Nowatkoski Robbins. Joey grew up in the city, but spent many summers and weekends down at the shore with his parents and extended English and Polish families. They enjoyed boating, crabbing, fishing, swimming, and picnicking on the beaches and boardwalks in Seaside Heights and Wildwood. In 1955 he graduated from Trenton Catholic Boy’s High School.
Joe was known for being a diligent, active, hardworking man that didn’t fully retire until he was 80 years old. He joined the US Army Reserves out of high school, and launched a 30 year career with the Hill Refrigeration Corp of Trenton, which was in operation for more than a century, filling several critical roles.
After retiring in 1988, Joe hopped on his Honda Goldwing and joined his then wife and baby daughter Jessica down in northern Virginia, where he took his HVAC and problem solving skills, and started a new career as a Maintenance Engineer for various rental properties.
After raising Jessica through her teenage years as a single father and watching her spread her wings, he decided to start a new chapter of his life in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with his dearest friend and most loyal companion, Bobbie. After putting in 10 years of service at Evans Ridge Apartments in Leesburg, Virginia he once again retired in 2007 and headed back to the beach. Joe and Bobbie were married on the sand in Surfside Beach on February 12, 2011.
Joe always loved cruising around, on either four wheels or two! He proudly owned many iconic cars through the years: Corvettes, Camaros, and a Mustang to name a few. He was always thrilled to take his loved ones, including his grandsons, for rides on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He had a great sense of humor and will forever be missed.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Bobbie Jo Robbins (of Myrtle Beach, SC) daughter Jessica Robbins-Johnson (and Kevin R. Johnson), grandsons Darren B Johnson and Andrew S Johnson (of Locust Grove, VA) and sons William Robbins and Joseph Robbins.
Cremation Services Direct (843-651-1194) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
