Lola Mae (Brafford) Dahlin Obituary

Lola Mae Brafford Dahlin, 83, of Surfside Beach, SC made the journey to heaven peacefully from her home on October 24,2024. She was a good & faithful servant who strived to please the Lord.  Her final moments were in the sunshine with coffee & a muffin.  She & the Lord walked to the other side on a beautiful day. It was a truly a Queens passing.

She was born & raised in Gray, Ky on a beautiful hillside farm. She graduated from Lynn Camp High School and moved to Louisville with her sisters before getting married.  Her strength shown in 1971 as she left her married home in Minnesota, boarded a bus with a suitcase & a 4-year-old & traveled across country alone. As a single parent, she dedicated her life to her daughter Kimberly making sure she had a life full of opportunities. Lola worked hard and rarely worried as she knew & always said, “things will work out”.  She raised her daughter & spent most of her life in Louisville, retiring as an Inspector from Phillip Morris Tobacco Co. after 21 years.   Upon her move to Surfside Beach, SC to be near her daughter, she spent a holiday season as a seamstress for the Radio City Rockettes at the Palace Theater.  After that, she looked forward to seeing “her girls” on TV during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Lola loved attention and she loved to laugh. Throughout her lifetime, Lola made friends easily. She was loved by everyone, especially Kimberly’s friends who called her “Mama Lola”. At every event someone sang to her a song with her name in it. She loved it. She also loved her dolls, her time in church, shopping with her daughter, Cracker Barrel, Kit Kats & the Kentucky Derby. Her nicknames given by her father & family were Toad, Toademae & Toadfrog.  Her Father said as a baby she bounced more than she crawled. She loved her sisters & loved talking to them by phone.  Her heart ached at the loss of brother Willard & sister Jeanette, but she knew the heavenly reunion would come by the grace of God.

Lola is survived by her loving daughter, Kimberly Dahlin of Surfside Beach, SC

Sisters, Sue Ellen Mills (Arland) of Gray, Ky, Sylvia Cole (Steve) of Corbin, Ky,

Geneva Haberlin (Al) of Louisville, Ky, also nieces & nephews
