William Luther Stancil, 84, of Lakes at Litchfield, Pawleys Island, SC, passed away on September 18 after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Luther was born in Westminster, SC to parents, James Luther Stancil and Kathleen Wright Stancil. He grew up in Charleston, SC with his sister, Mary Ellen Wright, and his two brothers, Stephen Wright Stancil and Jerry Logan Stancil.
Luther graduated from the University of South Carolina and was a proud member of the Gamecock club for many years. Go Gamecocks! After graduation he joined the accounting office of Ernst and Young in Greenville, SC. He then spent most of his career as a Managing Partner for the firm in Spartanburg, SC, where he and his wife Lela raised their family.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary Ellen and his brother, Steve. He was also preceded in death by his older son, Stephen Luther Stancil (Teresa) of Spartanburg.
He is survived by his wife, Lela Palmer Stancil, of Murrells Inlet, his brother, Jerry Stancil (Alivia) of North Charleston, and his younger son, Reverend Scott Palmer Stancil (Whitney) of Murrells Inlet.
Known lovingly to his family as Papa, he is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, Reverend David Stancil (Stephanie), Steffanie Wofford, Jessica Sizemore (Corey), and Addison Larson (Kevin), and 2 great grandchildren, Jonathan Stancil and Juliana Stancil. A memorial service will be held October 12,at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church Murrells Inlet, officiated by Luther's son Scott and his grandson, David.
