Lynne Marie Hammel, 68, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away on October, 11, 2024. Formerly of Indiana and Michigan, she was the daughter of Richard Harold Miller and the late Donna Mary Stage Miller.
Lynne was a devoted and loving mother to her son Patrick. They shared a very special bond and being his mother was most important in her life.
She had a dedicated career as a registered nurse, serving as the Lagrange County Public Health Nurse, Lagrange County Jail Nurse, in the Department of Veteran Affairs in Battle Creek, MI with acute psychiatric, palliative care and hospice care clients. She retired as a nurse case manager with home based primary care from VA-Charleston.
Lynne enjoyed classic movies, crafting stained glass, quilting, crocheting, gardening, the beach, walks on the boardwalk, dessert, and being a loving and attentive cat mom to her four felines. She volunteered time and energy to Tri Kappa, The American Red Cross, Cub Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, and Santa’s Helpers. She was a team parent leader for her son’s hockey team.
Lynne retired from the V.A. due to a cancer diagnosis in 2019. She bravely fought multiple myeloma for 5 long years, inspiring her family and friends with her strength and courage in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
She is survived by her son, Patrick (Chelsea); brother, Mike (Judy); sister, Kathy (John); father, Richard Miller (Julie); nieces, Jennifer (John), and Leslie; nephew, Jared (Maggie), and great nephews, Carter and Jackson. She is also survived by extended family and friends who made treatments possible and brought great JOY to Lynne until her final moments.
Lynne requested a Celebration of Life in her honor. A private Celebration of life for the family will be from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Sunday October 20, 2024, at the VFW Post 10420, 4359 US-17 BUS, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. A public celebration of life will be held from 2:00 pm until 5:00pm at the same location. Please wear beach casual clothing.
