Marguerite Anne (Mallory) O'Brien Obituary

Marguerite Anne O’Brien (Mallory) was a caring mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She left this world on Tuesday May 1, 2024, surrounded by her children in Murrells Inlet, SC.  


She was born to William and Marguerite Mallory on January 14, 1943, in Mount Vernon, NY. After graduating Cathedral High School in Springfield, MA, Marguerite attended College of Our Lady of the Elms where she studied elementary education. She taught overseas in the Philippines where she met her husband, Thomas H. O’Brien (d. April 1991). Together they had five children that survived them: Christine Coleman (Marty) of Clifton, NJ; William O’Brien (Allison) of Minneapolis, MN; Martha O’Brien of Boston, MA; Timothy O’Brien (Jennifer) of Hopedale, MA; and Bernard O’Brien of Arnold, MD. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and her older sister MaryEllen Aycock (Mallory) of Springfield, MA.  She was lovingly known as Maggie to her nieces and nephews. 


She moved from Highland Lakes, NJ to Murrells Inlet, SC in 2008 after retiring from the Highland Lakes Country Clubhouse as an administrative assistant. She was an active volunteer in Highland Lakes in various roles.  


Marguerite was an active member of St Jude’s the Apostle Church in Hamburg, NJ and St. Michael's Catholic Church in Garden City, SC as a lector and eucharist minister. She was an active member of the Franciscans Secular Order in NJ and SC. Marguerite loved to travel with her family and friends. 


Services and burial will be held in Stoughton, MA June 15th, 2024. Memorial mass will be held in NJ and SC at a future date. 


Donations can be made in her name to the College of Our Lady of the Elms.
