Marian Hillman Tysen

Marian Hillman Tysen, 76, of Murrells Inlet, SC peacefully passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Embrace Hospice House.   

Marian was born on March 3, 1947 to Lt. Col. Charles R. Hillman and Peggy A. Hillman (Prescott) in Deland, FL. As the daughter of a U.S. Air Force Officer, Marian grew up living in 6 different states (Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Virginia, Massachusetts and Maryland) and 2 foreign countries (England and Germany)

After Marian graduated from U.S.A.F. High School Wiesbaden, in Wiesbaden, Germany, 1965, she returned to the states. Massachusetts, Maryland, then, ultimately in Columbus, OH where she met and married the love of her life, the late John Tysen. Marian and John retired in 2001 to Murrells Inlet, SC to help care for her aging parents.

Marian was independent, free spirited, determined, strong willed and loving. She had a soft spot for dogs, and had many throughout the years.  She loved visiting with family, playing games, sharing stories and had a flare for home decorating – served as a decorator for the Parade of Homes in Columbus, OH.  She also enjoyed the beach, trying different types of food and sharing a glass of wine with her younger brothers. What she cared about most was the time she spent with her grandson, Max. 

Marian is preceded by her husband, John J. Tysen and her parents Lt. Col. Charles R. Hillman and Peggy Hillman. She is survived by her daughter Kristine Pesta (husband Jon Pesta) and grandson, Maximilian (22). Marian is also survived by her younger brothers Charles R. Hillman, Jr. (wife Susan Hillman), Robert P. Hillman (wife Susan Hillman) and Michael E. Hillman (wife Tammy Hillman) as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.  

A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, July 3rd at 56 Concord Rd. Chelmsford, Massachusetts.
