Marjorie Elizabeth (Hembree) Wright, aged 93, of Myrtle Beach passed away peacefully in her home on June 21, 2024 with loved ones by her side.

Born on June 14, 1931, in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Calvin Thomas Hembree and the late Susan Irene (Hixon) Hembree, Marjorie was the youngest of three children and a 1949 graduate of University High School in Columbia. After marrying the late Joseph Frank Wright Sr, Marjorie became a military wife and mother of five children. Together they traveled to places like Japan and England, before settling down in Myrtle Beach. In her younger years, Marjorie worked at places like the Ocean Forest Hotel and The Orange Bowl.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Marjorie is predeceased by her sisters Barbara Faye Cannon and Hellon June Williamson, her sons David W. Wright, Joseph F. Wright Jr., and Thomas E. Wright, her daughter-in-law Barbara A. Wright (Joe), and great-grandson Preston.

Marjorie is survived by her son Martin "Pat" Wright (Diane) of Aiken, SC, daughter Kathleen Schmidt (Wayne) of Conway, SC, daughter-in-laws Sharon Wright (Tom) and Linda Wright (David), 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and many other loved ones. Marjorie leaves behind an amazing legacy.

Details regarding memorial services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marjorie’s memory to St. Jude's Research Hospital, honoring her monthly commitment to supporting children's health and research.
