Mary Louise Kohut, 88, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, surrounded by family and love. Born on March 30, 1937, in Pasadena, California, she was the daughter of Frank Glass and Georgie Melton Dunnington.

Mary Lou is survived by her two children, David, married to Mickey, and Susan, married to Scott Wald. She was a proud grandmother to Shelby Fitzgerald (married to Michael) and Samantha Comalander (married to Adam), and a delighted great-grandmother to Michael, Carter, Charley, and Savannah, who brought her endless smiles.

Mary Lou was predeceased by her parents, her brother Frank, her stepmother Francis, and her husband John, whom she missed every day. Mary Lou and John were married for 57 years, building a life rooted in deep commitment, family, and joy.

She spent most of her life in East Brunswick, New Jersey, the town she called home from childhood through her move to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, in 2022 to live with David and Mickey and be close to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary Lou was an avid knitter and reader, rarely without a book nearby. She loved antiquing and collecting tchotchkes, especially anything red, with a rooster, or made of pewter. She believed firmly that every drink required ice (except coffee—but especially white zinfandel), and she lived by a couple of favorite phrases: “Whatever,” “it is what it is” and “C’est la vie.”

She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a proud library card holder.

Mary Lou will be remembered for her warmth, her quiet “sleeper” humor, her unwavering love for her family, and the many distinctive details that made her unmistakably herself. She was deeply loved and will be missed more than words can say.
