Mary Eileen Morrissey was born Dec.24th 1931 a Christmas present to David O’Brien and wife Marian (Gokey).
Mary lived in the Bronx (in a Walk-up Brownstone: 5 boys and 5 flights of stairs), in Monroe NY and in the retirement years in Murrells Inlet, SC with her husband John. In the later years she split time with her sons David in NY and Brian in NJ and SC.
Growing up in the Bronx was much different then compared to today. Vegetable gardens, stick ball, stoop ball and tag in the woods. Mom always claimed to be quite the tom boy growing up.
Mary and John (Dad) went to the same grammar school but did not know each other well. However after John returned from the service Mary fell in love with John and they were married in 1952.
Mary was a devoted wife to John and proud mother of 5 boys. She was a bank teller for many years in NYC and Monroe and a museum worker, school bus driver, and ambulance driver. One busy woman.
Mary is predeceased by her husband of 53 years John J Morrissey and her siblings Anne Vincenzo (husband Phil) l and Edward O’Brien (wife Eileen) and her sons Kevin, Daniel and William. She is survived by her sons Brian (wife Judi), David plus her daughters-in-law: Jennifer Morrissey and Judy Marinozzi. Mary is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Those wishing to show appreciation of Mary can make donations to American Heart Association.
