Mary Jane Blake, formerly of Defiance Ohio, died May 3rd, 2024 with her daughters by her side. Mary Jane was born in Hudson, New York to the late Jacob Hoffman, Sr. and Lillian (Hawver) Hoffman on August 16th, 1946. She married Michael Popow in 1964, who preceded her in death in 1966. She married Allen S. Blake in 1971 and they raised two daughters together.
Mary Jane loved being a stay at home mom when her kids were young. You may have seen her though in places like Gingerbread House, Elder Beerman, or Peppermint Patty’s, as her kids grew. Mary Jane went to work at Mike’s Convenience store later in life, and stayed there for many years where she enjoyed so many familiar and new faces each day, and had what she said was the “best boss ever”. She loved watching sports, you could definitely hear her talking about the Buckeyes, the Browns or the Reds depending on what season you saw her. She was an avid bowler, joining many leagues and finding success on the “boards of the alley”. She even had her daughter and grandson Henry join leagues in hopes of them finding the same passion she did in the game.
MJ was feisty, fun and had a joy for life, and she will be ever so greatly missed by those who loved her. She is survived by her mother, Lillian; her daughters, Missy (Scott) Hohenberger, Krissy Keough (Jason Zachrich), and Cindy (Frank) Dunning; three grandsons, and a granddaughter. She was also blessed with many brothers and sisters she adored; Scooper (Lillian), Betty Lou, Kathy, Barbara, David, Jakie, and Dennis. She had two half siblings, William and Caroline, who preceded her in death, as well as a precious granddaughter.
There is a private family ceremony planned, where she recently relocated to in South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to hospice in her memory.
