On February 26th, 2025, Michael Scott Rigby Sr. passed away peacefully at home at the age of 67. He was born on December 24th, 1957, in Detroit, MI.
Michael lived in London, England during middle and high school years where he was an incredible athlete and won countless medals in track and field. Michael was an avid camper who loved the outdoors and fortunately was able to go frequently since his retirement. He enjoyed surf fishing and just being at the beach. He was a talented woodworker and often carved animals, furniture, and other gifts for his family and friends. He never met a person he couldn’t make laugh and always had a new joke to tell. He was a supporter of the Smoking Shields of South Carolina, an organization that supports law enforcement and military personnel.
He is survived by his three children Amber Rigby of Fuquay Varina, NC; Sara Rigby and Jonathan James of Fuquay Varina, NC; Cullen Rigby and Halie Schwartz of Walterboro, SC; two grandsons Michael Rigby and Logan James both of Fuquay Varina, NC; two sisters Bredonne and Bill Huston of Clemson, SC, and Margaret Rigby of Lexington, KY; his wife Raelene Rigby of Myrtle Beach, SC, and many other beloved family members.
He was predeceased by his parents Jesse N. Rigby and Margaret E. Rigby; his brothers Gregory Rigby and Joseph Rigby; his son Michael Rigby Jr; and son-in-law Clifton Kelley.
A Celebration of Life will be held this summer on the Black River in South Carolina, where he will be laid to rest with his father and son.
