Miles Gerome Sugrue, Jr., age 75 of Indigo Creek passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at his home with his wife, Linda and daughter, Kelly by his side.
Born April 16, 1945 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Miles and Doris Sugrue. Miles was raised in a baseball family where his father played for a league and his uncles were his coaches. He played in high school and became the star player where he helped lead his team to two championship. After high school, he was picked for the American Legion. Scouts from as many as two teams were evaluating players constantly. Over 87 per cent of the major leaguers were American Legion graduates. Miles was then chosen to play for the Washington Gaslight league, and they became 1962 and 1963 State Champions. He earned many group and individual awards throughout his baseball career. At age 20, his career was ended with a severe accident. Then after his baseball days, he turned to golf and continued to play until a year before his death. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents are his sister, Judith Compton and brother-in-law, Richard Nicholson.
Surviving are his wife, Linda; daughter, Kelly; son, Sean Fisher and wife Sharon; sister, Elaine Nicholson of Annapolis, MD; nephews, Joseph, Steven and Jack Holt all from Eastern Shores of Maryland.
