Milton Andrew Thorp, Jr., (57), of Socastee, South Carolina, passed away on April 13, 2024, peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family. Milton, lovingly known as Milt, was born to Milton Thorp Sr. and Beverly Thorp on March 11th, 1967, in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Milt is survived by his wife, Kathy Thorp, and his daughter and his princess, Sadie Thorp. He is also survived by his sisters, Hollie and Carol Thorp, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Milton Sr. and Beverly.
He served with distinguishment as a volunteer firefighter in the Town of Poughkeepsie Fire Department, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. After that he continued to serve the public as the Poughkeepsie Water Department before moving to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he drove truck for SiteOne Landscaping. While he was known to be happier working than sitting still, those who worked with him remember the joy he brought to every job he worked, being a mentor and friend to all of his teammates.
He was an avid outdoorsman, lifelong hunter, and angler; his love of nature, animals, and fishing was passed on to his daughter. Milton also a sportsman competing in every pool, darts, bowling, horse-shoe, and golf tournament he could enter and has the trophies to prove it.
Aside from the outdoors, Milt was passionate about supporting his family, friends, and community. He was the rock for his family after set backs and tragedies and the first to raise a glass in celebration of the good times. He never met a stranger and was always quick with a joke or a story; a mountain of a man with a laugh to match. He showed his son-in-law how to be a better husband. He contributed to every toy drive, celebration of life, and fundraiser that he ever came across. He was proudly a member of the local Moose Lodge and various community programs and fundraisers. No matter what the cause Milt positively impacted our community, and he will truly be missed but not forgotten.
Milt’s family will have a celebration of life on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Road House 17 Bar and Grill starting at 4:00 PM. Friends and family are welcome to stop by to share their favorite story of a truly singular husband, father, and friend.
