It’s with a heavy heart and great sadness that I announce the passing of my husband, Norman Harvey Smith, who left us peacefully on February 1, 2025, at the age of 88.
Norman was a man who lived life at his own pace. He was known for his jovial spirit, love of laughter, and unwavering dedication to his favorite pastimes: golf and TV.
Born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey, Norman spent much of his life working hard and finding solace in the simple joys of life. Upon retiring, he made his final move to Myrtle Beach in a home on the 8th hole of his beloved golf course, where he could play the game whenever he pleased. Friends will remember him most for his wide grin as he discussed his golf game on the 19th hole with anyone who would listen. Norman liked to reminisce about his 2 hole-in-ones and his trophies and plaques.
Norman’s true comfort zone was his home. A self-proclaimed “homebody,” Norman was happiest in front of the TV, watching his favorite shows sports, and old movies. He would often joke, “I’ve played my last round of golf…. now I’m playing my best round of channel surfing.” It was this easy-going attitude, along with his infectious laugh, that made him a beloved member of the family.
Norman leaves behind his cherished family and friends who will miss his humor kindness, and unique ability to always look on the bright side of things. Though his love for golf and television defined much of his later years, it was his personality, quick wit, and undeniable warmth that defined his legacy.
Norman is not only survived by me, but he is also survived by his beloved children, Rex, Scott, Clarence, Paul, Norman, and Moyra. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren. I know that his love will shine on them, and he will live forever in their hearts.
A private memorial service will be held in his honor, where family and friends are invited to share stories and perhaps sneak in a round of golf just as Norman would have wanted.
Rest in peace, Norman. You’ll forever be on the course, and we know you’re watching your favorite show from above.
