Peggy Joyce Dick 88, of Sylva, North Carolina, passed away Monday May 25, 2026, at the Embrace Hospice House of the Grand Strand in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Peggy was born March 5, 1938, in Albertville, Alabama to the late Dee and Ollie Buchanan, and was the youngest of four daughters. She graduated from Warner Robins High School in Warner Robins, Georgia in 1956. She met her husband Richard Dick, who was serving in the Air Force at Warner Robins Air Force Base, not long after while attending church there. They married November 1, 1957. Vickie their first-born daughter was born nine months later., August 18, 1958, at Warner Robins Air Force Base. The family was transferred to Illinois where they lived on Pine Grove Avenue until their next move to Chesapeake, Virginia, their second daughter, Carol was born August 21, 1960, at Langley Air Force Base. Their next move was to Maryland in the Washington Metropolitan area where they both worked for the Federal Government. Peggy worked for 20 years retiring October 2, 1992.
Both Peggy and Richard loved their churches Accokeek Baptist, and White Hall Baptist in Maryland, where they volunteered regularly at the local food bank where they met many new friends. In 2018, Peggy moved to Sylva, North Carolina with Vickie and Eric where she attended East Fork Baptist Church. She absolutely loved playing the card game "Hand and Foot" almost every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for years at the Jackson County Senior Center, where she made many wonderful friends. Peggy was an excellent cook, showing her love through homemade dishes, especially her famous biscuits and gravy. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. No matter how much time passes she'll always be mom, "Peggy Sue", "Nanny Boo-Boo", and one of her family's greatest blessings.
Peggy is survived by her daughters Vickie DeStefano (Eric), and Carol Beale; grandchildren; Joshua DeStefano (Julie), Jessica DeStefano, and Sean Beale; Great-grandchildren; Shelby Beale, Shane Beale Jr., Adeline DeStefano, and Ethan DeStefano.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Richard Dick, grandson Shane Thomas Beale, and her sisters Viola Cranford, Irene Mashburn, and Nell Rogers.
Peggy will be laid to rest with her husband at Cheltenham Veteran's Cemetery in Cheltenham, Maryland.
