Richard Edward Sargent, 70, of Tampa Bay, Florida, passed away September 20, 2023. He passed away at his home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, after a short battle with liver cancer.
Richard was a Navy veteran and served on the U.S.S. Kittyhawk, as a third-class petty officer, during the Vietnam war. He was honorably discharged and was an active member of the American Legion. Richard enjoyed traveling when he was younger and always had a fun story to tell of his trips. Lately, Richard loved to watch the Price is Right, daily, and was nearly always correct when it came to guessing the prices of the prizes. He also enjoyed riding his mobility scooter all over and meeting new people in the area!
Richard had one daughter, Samantha, whom he adored with all his heart. He was a loving, attentive father, and grandfather to his three grandchildren and loved to spoil them.
Richard is preceded in death by his father, James R. Sargent, stepfather, Robert Elliott and brother-in-law, Richard McComas. He is survived by his daughter Sam (Matt) Benson; grandchildren, Evy, Della, and Finn Benson; mother, Dorothy Elliott; sisters, Sandra (Raul) Herrera and Margaret McComas; brother, Jimmy (Kelly) Elliott; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say thank you to all who helped during the last months but especially to his friend who as a veteran himself said no man left behind, Vinny Deangelo.
Graveside services will be held Friday October 27th, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the Florence National Cemetery 1001 Stockade Drive, Florence, South Carolina 29506.
