Robert (Bob) J. Cortese, 88, of Conway, SC passed away to his heaven surrounded by his devoted family on July 14, 2024. Bob was born October 21, 1935, in Canonsburg, PA. He spent his life dancing the beams as a welder for Iron Workers Local #17 in Cleveland, Ohio. His ascension was without pain or worry.

Bob was a remarkable husband, father, grandfather and friend to all the people he encountered. He was as quick to laugh deeply with a stranger as with a dear friend. Semper Fi (always faithful) was not only his Marine motto but his life’s creed. Bob reveled in nature. His extensive family travels celebrated his adoration of wildlife and scenic wonders. Bob would absorb the history, art, and culture of any region he visited without exception. He found nature and camaraderie on a myriad of South Carolina’s golf courses. Those who were privileged to golf with Bob found the experience fulfilling. Other passions were music and dance. “Rubber Legs” Robert could do a lively jig almost as well as he could sing a classic song in his rich baritone voice. A man of all seasons Bob was equally skilled with any tool, from a welder’s torch to a simple hammer. He was surely the Michelangelo of home improvement.

Saved for last is his family. The single most important part of this remarkable man’s life. Robert is survived by his soulmate of 63 years, Eleanor. Also, his two dedicated children Kelly (spouse Eric) and Daniel (spouse Janet). Playing ball with them after work was never a pain, only a pleasure. Some of Bob’s most cherished memories were created with his splendid grandchildren Conner and Chase. Robert typified what it meant to be a supporting father-in-law to Eric and Janet.
