Bob Helfgott, 97, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. He was the son of the late Henry and Lillian Helfgott of Rockville Centre, NY.  He lived on Long Island for most of his life and retired to West Palm Beach, Florida.  He spent his last year living near his son Jim and daughter-in-law Shar in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Rockville Centre, NY.  Bob served our country in the US Navy in WW II.  He attended Southside High School in Rockville Centre and Paul Smith’s College near Lake Placid, NY.  He spent most of his career in the clothing manufacturing business.  His hobbies included playing golf and cards with friends and family.  He loved to eat and really loved his oysters!  He was well known for his smile and sunny disposition and brought joy to all who knew him.

He is pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 30 years Shirley.  He raised three boys with his first wife Joan Hailparn Helfgott who also pre-deceased him.  He will be missed by his sons Jim Helfgott and wife Shar, and Dan Helfgott and wife Kim who live in Easton, MD.  His youngest son Jeff pre-deceased him and is survived by his husband Peter Gee.  He is also survived by three grandchildren; Paul Helfgott lives in San Diego, Leah Helfgott lives in Northern Virginia and Allyson Stimmel and her husband Jason Stimmel live in Panama City, Florida.  He had a loving second family with Shirley.  They included Shirley’s children Jodi Dalton and her husband Bill of West Palm Beach, Fl, JR Tuzza and his wife Maggie who live in Ireland, and Bobby Tuzza who is on Long Island, NY.  The many grandchildren and great grandchildren also added to the joy of the years Bob shared with Shirley.

A private service will be held at a later date.  It is requested that those that want to honor him make gifts to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice (lifecare.org/donate/) who provided great aide and support to Bob in his last months.

Cremation Services Direct (843-651-1194) of Myrtle Beach, SC, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
